Maribelle’s latest single ‘Down For You’ is a testament to the real world, one without white picket fences and rose coloured glasses. Disguised amidst an R&B groove, ‘Down For You’ is a bittersweet observation on the toxicity of young love, and the pendulum between seeking comfort in stability, and the desire for growth and change.

It has been a year of awakening for Maribelle. Her coming-of-age from teenager to adult is something she is still navigating, and only just learning to embrace. In 2018, Maribelle is staying honest, and she is staying modest. She is done with the gloss, she knows who she is, and what she stands for. She is the daughter of immigrants, a suburban girl, and a voice of the people. She is relentless, she is fierce, and above all else: she is real.

For Maribelle, there is no backup plan. Music is it for her, and she won’t let anybody tell her otherwise. It’s been a busy couple of years for Maribelle. She released her debut EP ‘Overtake’ (1.1M streams), videos for ‘Shout’ and ‘I’m a Mess Without You’ (900K streams) and supported the likes of Kaytranada and Goldlink. The self-trained singer, songwriter, and producer has also been writing endlessly for artists in Australia, and abroad in Europe, USA and Asia. After countless sessions with strangers, Maribelle has discovered that there is power in vulnerability.

“Everybody is taking risks, being totally themselves and pushing the boundaries of what commercial music can be”.

Learning to focus on the present, and to fall in love with the process is the major key for longevity in music. Maribelle is dedicated to passing these lessons onto the next generation of songwriters. In 2015, she started Crush Club Records with her cousin Mia, brought together by their shared passion for music and education. “We wanted to create a platform where artists can experiment and explore their artistry by truly being themselves. Crush Club Records is a space that we created because we couldn’t find a lane in the music industry”.
