Emerging from the sparkling waters of Byron Bay, Australia, SEASIDE is an indie-rock band known for their emotionally raw songwriting, dreamy yet fierce sound, and a signature blend of sunshine and sorrow. Fronted by the commanding presence of Darcy Dexter, the group burst onto the musical landscape in 2018 with their effortlessly sublime single “Golden Girl“, which immediately propelled them onto the national festival and touring circuit. That same year, they were selected by Triple J Unearthed to play Splendour in the Grass, marking the start of a prolific journey.
Since then, Seaside has released four EPs—including the acclaimed Wishbone EP—alongside standalone singles, continually evolving their expansive sound from early dream-pop roots to a powerhouse modern-rock with alt-rock edge. They’ve toured extensively across Australia and beyond, sharing stages with some of the country’s biggest acts like Angus & Julia Stone, Vampire Weekend, Lime Cordiale, The Jungle Giants, Northeast Party House, Last Dinosaurs, and Ocean Alley (including runs in the UK and EU). Internationally, they’ve supported The Vaccines, Sparta (USA), and Jack Kays (USA), while delivering standout festival performances at events like Party in the Paddock. Through years of relentless road work, Seaside honed their true identity as a high-energy act adding daring flavour to the domestic scene, with music that sways listeners into a haze, or stand you on your head.
The pandemic provided a rare pause, allowing the band to refine their craft without distractions. This led to their ambitious 2023 single “We’re On Fire“, written by Seaside, produced by Tony Beliveau (Crash Kings), and recorded at Rockinghorse Studios in the Byron Hinterland with engineer Paul Pilsonic (Angus Stone, Silverchair, The Mars Volta). Mixed by Adam “Atom” Greenspan (IDLES, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire) and mastered by Joe Bozzi (U2, Outkast, Fleetwood Mac), the track kicked off a bold new chapter, followed by an EP later that year.
In 2025, Seaside has unleashed a trio of singles, culminating in the indie-rock anthem “Rebels“—an empowerment-through-pain opener from their long-awaited debut album ‘Desiderata’, set for release in late October. Written and recorded over 12 months, the 11-track album crystallizes their envisioned sound, blending punchy riffs, dreamy melodies, and introspective lyricism to explore themes of love, heartbreak, addiction, grief, and hope. Deeply personal, ‘Desiderata’ is dedicated to Darcy Dexter’s late father, whose passing midway through the process shaped its emotional core. The title draws from a poem read at Darcy’s parents’ wedding, while the artwork features “Sadie,” a crying sun embodying the band’s essence. Standout tracks include “Rebels” (inspired by a dream of lost love), the haunting “Family Gambling” on addiction’s toll, the grief-tribute “Big Sky“, and the hard-hitting “Sick“.
To celebrate, Seaside will embark on their biggest national headline tour yet in December 2025, hitting Brisbane, Sydney, Wollongong, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth. Fans can expect an electrifying show packed with new album material, fan favorites, and the band’s infectious energy—solidifying their place as a tide-rising force in indie music, ready for global export.
